Enfocus Software Unveils Instant PDF 3.0 at drupa 2004

Düsseldorf, Germany (drupa 2004), May 6, 2004 – Enfocus Software, the world leader in PDF workflow tools, is unveiling Instant PDF 3.0, a major upgrade to its PDF preflight application, at drupa 2004. Instant PDF 3.0 is a stand-alone application closely integrated with industry-leading page layout and PDF tools Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress and Adobe Acrobat as well as the Apple Macintosh OS X operating system. The product is being shown as a new technology preview.

Instant PDF 3.0 brings document creators and document receivers together by providing tools needed to achieve the highest quality Certified PDF output. Document receivers (such as printers and publishers) set up an Enfocus PDF Queue containing all the necessary settings to produce high quality files according to the receiver’s specification. Document creators (such as graphic designers and ad agencies) load the Enfocus PDF Queue from their printer or publisher to produce press-ready PDF files from their native layout application or directly from OS X.

“We’ve dramatically reworked the product based on customer feedback,” says Enfocus CEO David van Driessche. “Both from a user experience and from a feature point of view, Instant PDF has evolved into a much more mature product. Though the primary focus of providing document creators with the easiest way to create error-free PDFs hasn’t changed, the 3.0 version gives document receivers the tools they need to define how that PDF should behave for their particular workflow.”

Implementation of New Enfocus PDF Queue

Instant PDF 3.0 will implement the new Enfocus PDF Queue with CertifiedPDF.net, the widely used online resource for PDF specifications. The Enfocus PDF Queue contains all settings, including print styles, job options, PDF Profiles and Action Lists, needed to create error-free PDFs.

“The integration of the Enfocus PDF Queue with CertifiedPDF.net makes it effortless for receivers to consistently communicate their quality specifications to their creative partners and customers,” says Filiep Maes, Enfocus Director of Software Development. “If a specification changes, these changes are automatically distributed using Instant PDF’s queue update feature from CertifiedPDF.net.”

Major Features and Details

• Instant PDF 3.0 supports different PDF creation tools and technologies. In addition to Adobe Acrobat Distiller, Instant PDF 3.0 now also integrates with the direct PDF export from Adobe InDesign CS and QuarkXPress 6, as well as the PDF creation technology embedded in Mac OS X from Apple.

• The Enfocus PDF Queue contains all settings needed to create error-free PDFs:
• Print settings for both Adobe InDesign CS and QuarkXPress 6
• Acrobat Distiller Job Options
• An Enfocus PDF Profile, providing the most comprehensive set of PDF preflight checks and fixes
• Enfocus Action Lists, bringing advanced auto-correction known from PitStop Professional and PitStop Server
• Preferred file save, email, and FTP locations
• Smart locking mechanism of the PDF Queue settings to allow the PDF Queue Publisher to define which settings are mandatory. This mechanism is specifically designed to allow a publisher to use specifications from a third party.

• The user experience has been significantly enhanced to provide:
• Simple application installation and set-up
• Direct integration with QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat and the Mac OS X print panel through a “Save as Certified PDF” menu item
• Easy job monitoring through intuitive user interface
• Synchronization of Enfocus PDF Queues with CertifiedPDF.net to keep PDF Queues up to date with minimal user interaction
• “Self-healing” feature ensures minimal installation and maintenance concerns for both the application and Enfocus PDF Queues
• An optional “review” step for visual inspection of generated PDF files before they are delivered
• An in-application function that provides direct links to the extensive help function

At drupa 2004, Enfocus will also show a technology preview of how job ticket support will be incorporated into its product line.

Instant PDF 3.0 is planned for commercial release in the second half of this year.
